Zakeyah G. Makhoul, a matriarch of the family, died Thursday Apr. 27 at home in her children's arms. Born in Zwaitini, Syria 12/1/1923 to Georges Khalil Makhoul and Zaheye (Khouly) Makhoul, an only sister to 5 brothers (Mikhaeel, Henna, Fadel Elias and Izzat Makhoul) who predeceased her. She moved to the U.S. in 1976 to begin a new life for her and her children. She began working in the garment sewing industry until she retired. Zakeyeh has built a legacy. A mother of 10 children, she is survived by 3 sons, 5 daughters, 24 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Makhoul Nader Makhoul (2014) and sons Nader M Makhoul (2004) and Georges Makhoul (1951).

Survived by: sons Matanios Makhoul (Ilham Makdesi) of Damascus Syria, George Makhoul (Fiancee Basma Salman) of Neffs PA, Elias Makhoul (Stephanie Rex) of Canton GA; Daughters Linda Botros (Ramez) of Allentown, Alis Atiyeh (Ibrahim) of Whitehall, Georgette Salloum (Jouzef) of Whitehall, Nadia Georges (George) of Whitehall, and Antoinette Richie of South Whitehall, Daughter in Law Georgette Georges Makhoul of Whitehall.

Services: Friends and family may pay condolences at the family residence in Allentown daily. Viewing and condolences will be Tuesday May 2nd from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., and Wednesday May 3rd from 10:00 until the time of service at 11:00, all inside St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 1011 Catasauqua Ave. Allentown, with the Very Rev. Anthony Sabbagh officiating. Burial to follow at Laurel Cemetery, Whitehall.
