Maria Claessens

Maria Claessens, 96, of Luther Crest in Allentown, Pa. passed away June 22, 2021 at home in the loving care of her family.

Born in Sigmaringen, Germany on the Danube October 5, 1924 she emigrated to America in 1957. Her life's work was to help others as a registered nurse, and she became head nurse of the psychiatric ward at the VA hospital until retirement. After traveling to 49 of the 50 states, the islands, and always a visit to her home country she worked in her community to help the handicap learn to swim, rode school buses with autistic children and made soup for anyone who became ill.  

Her passion was all about family and friends ~ and making wonderful memories. She was quite the game player and had many crafts such as stained glass, quilting, tapestries, rugs, knitting, sewing, baking and such an exceptional cook! Maria also loved to garden.

Maria is survived by her sister Irene Kallenberg in Germany,  son Peter Jaeckle and wife Patricia, daughter in law Desiree Jaeckle, and two grandchildren Jade Jaeckle and Erich Jaeckle.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27th at Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, 1227 W. Hamilton St., Allentown. Visitation from 2:00 until the service.
