Eleanor M. Chapkovich

Eleanor Chapkovich, 88, of Allentown passed away May 27th at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. Born in Coopersburg, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Cecelia (Jakubec) Chapkovich. Eleanor was a graduate of Allentown High School, or as she would say “Not William Allen!” then began working at Food Fair at age 16, a job she would continue for 19 years after they became Pantry Pride, moving up to become the first female in Lehigh County to become a head cashier then manager. She finished her working career at Dun & Bradstreet. She enjoyed family picnics and holiday dinners and was known for hosting Christmas eve dinners for the entire family. Eleanor also enjoyed casino trips, traveling, gardening and maintaining her rose bushes. Eleanor was an avid dog and cat lover, and was survived by her baby girl cat, Pepper.

Although she had no children of her own, her six brothers gave her 15 nieces and nephews; several great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews as well as extended family and she was close to all of them. Her predeceased brothers were Louis Jr., Andrew, William, Alfred, Charles and Daniel.

Services: viewing on Saturday, June 7th starting at 9:30 a.m. at Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, 1227 W. Hamilton St., Allentown. Funeral service begins at 10:30 with interment following at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Directions at www.AllentownFunerals.com.
