Sabra Grant Kennington

Sabra Grant Kennington, 85, passed away peacefully on 22 January 2021 in Allentown, Pennsylvania.  Sabra, an only child, was raised in Hartford, Connecticut by Harold and Elizabeth Grant.  After obtaining a BS in Art from Connecticut College (1957), she met and married a career U.S. Navy nuclear submariner, CAPT William A. Kennington USN (Ret.), started a family and taught preschool and kindergarten.  While teaching and raising four boys, she obtained a MS in linguistics and when her husband retired in 1985 to Annapolis, Maryland, she took a position at the Harbour School as a speech therapist.  She was a member of the Naval Academy chapel choir, enjoyed walking her dogs with friends and all the activities surrounding Annapolis, including USNA sporting events and sailing on the Severn River aboard the 35’ Endeavor sailboat, Clean Sweep, named in recognition of all four of her sons graduating from USNA. 

 Survivors: her four sons; Robert ’81 (married to Lili) (surface line),

William Jr. ’82 (married to Linda) (submariner), Bruce ’86 (submariner),

CDR Eric Kennington ’88, USN (Ret.) (married to Dayna) (aviator);

daughter-in-law, Virginia; seven grandchildren, William III, Elena, Ryan, Arthur, Tristen, Reese, and Ethan; and her close cousin, Scotty Benson.

Services: Inurnment alongside her husband, who predeceased her, and memorial services will be held at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland at a future date to be promulgated post COVID-19.
