George S. "Jaws" Adams
10/14/2026
August 31, 1954 – October 14, 2026
George S. Adams, affectionately known as "Jaws" to his many friends, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 31, 1954, in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, George was the son of George Adams Sr. and Irene (Contress) Adams. He grew up in Freeland, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Freeland High School in 1972. He earned an associate degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Luzerne County Community College. George spent many years in restaurant management before transitioning to a career in health insurance sales.
If there was a game to watch, a concert to attend, or a road trip to plan, George was ready to go. A diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan and season ticket holder for an incredible 46 years, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Birds. He passed his passion for the Eagles down to his children, creating countless memories through games, tailgates, and a shared love of Philadelphia sports. His loyalties also extended to Penn State football, the Philadelphia Phillies, and Villanova basketball.
George loved being on the go and was always up for an adventure, especially one that involved good friends and a big sporting event. Whether it was a college bowl game, the Kentucky Derby, or the Preakness Stakes, he enjoyed the journey just as much as the destination. He loved trips to Atlantic City to try his luck at the slots and stroll the boardwalk, as well as spending time at the beaches of Ocean City, Maryland, and Myrtle Beach.
An avid golfer, George played in local golf leagues and looked forward to golf trips with friends and rounds with his son, Matthew. In his younger years, he also enjoyed playing softball, darts, and bowling in local leagues. A lifelong fan of good company and a good time, George was active in numerous social clubs over the years, including the Moose and Elks lodges during his years in Danville. More recently, he enjoyed spending time with friends at Hogan's Social Club, Franklin Social Club, and the Columbian Home. Whether sharing stories, catching a game, or simply enjoying the company of friends, George was always happiest when surrounded by people.
George had a lifelong love of rock music and attended countless concerts over the years, including several memorable shows with his daughter, Jill. Outgoing, social, and always ready for a good time, George was someone who could turn an ordinary outing into a great story. His friends will remember his sense of humor, his enthusiasm for life, and the many miles, laughs, and memories they shared together.
As much as George loved his sports, music, and adventures, nothing meant more to him than his family. He was a proud father to Jill and Matthew, and becoming "Pops" to his grandson, Declan, brought him a special kind of happiness. Even during his illness, George fought with incredible determination, holding on to the hope of meeting his second grandchild, expected in December.
George is survived by his daughter, Jill Moniz, and her husband, David, of Ardmore, Pennsylvania; his son, Matthew Adams, and his wife, Emily, of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania; his beloved grandson, Declan; and his brother, Mark Adams, of Drifton, Pennsylvania. He was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of his second grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Adams Sr. and Irene (Contress) Adams, and his brother, Steven Adams.
In a fitting farewell, George spent his final moments holding the hands of his children while listening to Billy Joel, an artist whose music had been the soundtrack to so many special memories.
A celebration of George's life will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2026, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Columbian Home, 1519 W. Greenleaf Street, Allentown, PA 18102. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a life filled with friendship, laughter, and unforgettable adventures.
