Elwood E. Grether, Jr.

Elwood Grether, Jr., 81, of Allentown, died Wednesday at St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown.  Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Elwood Grether Sr. and Winifred (Fritz) Grether.  He operated a food catering truck in the Allentown area, Case Box Lunch, for over 20 years, and later was a delivery driver for Allentown News Agency.

He was an avid bowler, in many leagues, coached baseball and was set to be called up to the Boston Red Sox, deciding instead to start a family.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea.

Survivors:  Daughter Kimberly and husband Leroy; sons Jeff, Scott and companion Joe, all of Allentown; stepchildren Debbie, Patricia and Thomas; sister Carol Pope, brother Robert Grether; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Service:  Memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 9 at Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, 1227 W. Hamilton St., Allentown.  Rev. Beth Goudy is officiating.  Calling hour from 4-5 in the funeral home.
